Down the Memory Lane : Jamshedpur's First ever TEDx Talk !!

With the second edition of TEDxXLRI scheduled to happen on Feb 10th, lets take a walk down the memory line to the first ever TEDxXLRI which took place last year.

XLRI Jamshedpur hosted the TEDx Talk at their campus for the first ever TEDx talk to be hosted in the city of Jamshedpur. The theme for the event was ‘Infinite Possibilities’. The Talk was organized by the TEDx Organising Committee of XLRI.  Eminent speakers like Krispian Lawrence, Michigan University; Ms Dipta Bhog, Journalist; Prof. Tamonas Gangopadhyay of XLRI; Mr Akshar Pathak; Ms. Ruby Hembrom  shared a myriad of ideas and experiences of how they have stepped beyond the various perceived boundaries to do achieve extraordinary feats.

The session began with the talk of Mr. Krispian Lawrence, a post graduate from the University to Michigan, who has been instrumental in creating haptic footwear which can be used in a multitude of areas, like being an assisting aid for the visually challenged. He advise to the gathered crowd was “Don’t follow your passion, because passions change. Instead, be passionate about everything that you work on”.Ms. Dipta Bhog, a journalist spoke about her initiative of creating Khabar Lahariya, a rural newspaper read by over 800 families in 8 different dialects.She further spoke about working on issues related to Rural Journalism, Women’s Literacy, Adult and Girls Education in diverse areas like programme design, implementation, policy and impact. Mr. Akshar Pathak commented, “Infinite stupidities lead to infinite possibilities” adn further spoke from his experience in working as a graphic designer with various prominent portals.Prof. Tamonas Gangopadhyay took the attendees through the world of fractals - the mathematical expression of infinite possibilities. Mr. Kunj Sanghvi, a business graduate who broke away from the stereotype and travelled across 23 states in India to write a book of 23 short stories, talked on how the average middle class mindset is both limited and limiting and advised the audience to be travelers in the journey of life. Ms. Ruby Hembrom spoke about breaking set notions and rebuilding norms so that the society becomes more inclusive. Ruby has been instrumental in setting up Adivaani, a publishing house that aims to bring out the local stories of the Adivasi community in a global language.

All these talks left the gathered audience enthralled and wanting for more. And this years TEDxXLRI promises to be a better and a much a bigger affair. Keep tuned to this space for further updates.
